FAQ

Iron on transfers are a cost effective way to personalise and customise your clothing.

Digitally printed iron on transfers are perfect for producing full colour prints that you can iron on to your clothing.

With digitally printed iron ons you can include your own photos, any colour of text, logos, slogans and any background colour.

These are great for all occasions, or even just to create your own unique garments with some of your own designs!

Printed transfers are for use on cotton / cotton blend clothing only.

Printed iron ons cannot be machine washed, and so are intended for short term use.

Do I need a light garment transfer or a dark garment transfer?

Transfers for use on white / light garments:

These can ONLY be ironed on to either white or very light colour (i.e. Pastel) garments / fabrics.

The transfer is printed on to a clear film background so the colour of the garment will show through when applied, this is why they are recommended for use on white or very pale fabric only.

As printers can not print the colour white any white colour on your design comes from the garment itself.

Transfers for use on black / dark garments:

These can be used on any coloured garments or fabrics whether they are black, bright, dull or vibrant.

The transfer is printed on a default white colour background, which can be changed whilst designing your transfer to match the colour of the garment you wish to iron onto i.e. If you are going to iron it onto a red top, then make the background colour of your custom transfer red to match.

As printers can not print the colour white, any white areas on your design comes from the transfer paper itself.

How do I apply my transfer?

All orders include an easy to follow instruction sheet, which is also available right here online!

Please ensure you follow the instructions carefully and give us a call if you have any questions or issues.

Application requires a hot iron or heat press so please be careful when applying, if under 18 seek assistance from a responsible adult.

Signature Printing Ltd. will not be held liable for any injury, loss, cost or damage incurred whilst using our products.

How do I ensure a good quality print?

In order for us to print a high quality transfer for you, we need you to upload a high quality image.

You can upload jpeg or png files to the editor, and we recommend a resolution of at least 50 dpi.

(Feel free to choose from our great selection of designs as well!)

For the less technically minded out there, the simplest thing to do is to check your image before upload - does it look small and / or pixelated on screen?

If it looks pixelated on screen then it will look this way when printed.

If you need any assistance with image quality and clarity then feel free to get in touch!

Vinyl lettering sheets are great for achieving an extremely professional and durable finish to your garments.

They can only be in one colour (per sheet) and you can make use of any text / letters / numbers that you wish, in a range of great fonts.

These are perfect for putting names & numbers on to clothing i.e. for Charity events,  sports kits, hen & stag nights, promotional wear etc.

If you wish to have a logo made out of vinyl, we can do this, just a give us a call or email to discuss the requirement.

Vinyls can be applied to almost all types of fabric both natural & sythetic.

Vinyls can be machine washed and so are a professional & durable transfer product.

Are iron on transfers and vinyls only for use on t-shirts?

Simply, no.

Our printed iron on transfers can be used on any cotton or cotton blend smooth fabrics.

Our vinyl transfers can be used on any cotton or polyester or blend fabrics

(Please make sure that the material is capable of taking the heat from the iron / heat press before applying. We cannot be held responsible for any damages caused).

Machine washing & durability

Whether or not your product is machine washable depends entirely on the product that you have chosen...

Printed iron on transfers can not be machine washed, they are for hand wash in cool water only. Once applied, leave 24 hours before washing the garment and do not iron over the print when ironing.

Printed transfers are intended for short term wear.

General usage is estimated at 5-6 hand washes washes but proper application can extend this!

Vinyl lettering transfers are much more durable and can be machine washed on a cool wash.

Once applied, leave 24 hours before washing, wash inside out and do not iron over the print when ironing.

When applied with a heat press the life of the transfer will be extended further.

Digitally printed garments - if you design your own garments online with us, we will professionally print them for you using industry leading Direct To Garment print technology.

This print method is very durable as the ink is absorbed into the fabric, and it will not wash away.

Our printed garments can be machine washed on a normal wash, and the print will last the whole lifetime of the garment!

Iron on transfer background colours

As explained above - light garment transfers have a clear film background when ironed on, so the choice of adding a background colour is really up to you for this product type!

However, dark garment transfers have a default white background - so if you want the background colour to match the colour of your garment, use our background colour selection to make it match!

Vinyl lettering has no background at all when applied to any colour fabric.
